With the 2009 coming to an end, the riders from Formula Europe are finishing their last races before enjoying a well-deserved rest and starting preparation for the 2010 BMX Season.

Rihards Veide is showing he’s ready to move up to the Elite Category next season. In Besnato (Italy), he won the opening Time Trial of the 3rd International BMX Fast Cross against several European Top Elite riders. In Saturday’s race he took a solid second behind former World Champ Arturs Matisons and in front of Vice European Elite Champ Arnaud Dubois. On Sunday he took the win followed by Arnaud Dubois and Pablo Gutierrez.

In Denmark, Niklas Laustsen competed in the Open Elite race in Varde.  In the combined Junior and Elite class Niklas won the overall in the motos giving him 2nd lane choice in the main. He took a good gate and was in second place going into the first turn. After a rider came from the inside pushing the leader up to take over first, Niklas made a nice high-low to hold on to his second place and kept it untill the finish line. A strong result for Junior Niklas against the Danish Elite riders.

Edzus Treimanis traveled to Krasnaya Pakhra in Russia for a big money race. 51 Elite riders participated in this event, which had a different race format with 3 finals.
Edzus qualified for the finals and started strong with a 2nd and 1st, but in the last final, he took a bad gate and after some trouble trying to pass some riders, he had to settle for 7th. With tied points for 2nd, the result of the 3rd final was decisive, giving Edzus 3rd place in the overall.

Lucie Meerholz competed in the Top Competition in Holland, where she crashed in the main. She was in slotted in second, when a side wind swapped her of her bike. After a visit to the local hospital, she knew here 2009 season was over with a broken collarbone. Lucie is taking here time to let this heal and will then start preparing for the 2010 season.

Steven Wong has been preparing for All China Games to be held later this month and is eager to renew his title on the biggest national race event in China. In the World Cup in Chula Vista, he showed his SX riding has definitely improved and he’s ready for next season.

Bastien Merle is still recovering from his knee surgery. He is now resident at the French training centre in Aix, where he has joined the French National Team.

Nico van Dartel has been racing the National Top Competition Series in the 17+ Challenge. With only podium finishes and 1 more race to go, he’s in second place of the overall ranking. For the rest he’s been working on team stuff, so expect some news updates about that soon.
