Kevin Sprengers USA Trip Report
First Weekend
Here I have an update from my trip to America. We left 7 February to do some training and races. The first weekend we got here was more relaxing. Just get in the rhythm with the time difference. So we started on Monday with our training sessions. The weather is great over here so we can train outside, we loved that cause there was snow at our home place. With the nice view to the ocean from our backyard makes it even more perfect.
First Week
The upcoming weekend started with the race in Reno. We are in a winter schedule at the moment so we knew the race would be really hard. That’s why we went to Nic Long’s place for some gates to some do some sprinting. It went pretty good so I was excited for the weekend.
It was a 12 hour drive to Reno, so we were really tired when we got there. But we had to put ourselves together cause we had to set up the team area. After that we went back to the hotel and chilled the whole day. Friday it was practice time. It went really good, gates were fine, track was nice. So thought it would be a good weekend. But when I came to the pro-section I over-jumped the double and almost made it as a triple. That didn’t work out really well, so I crashed. I thought everything was OK, also cause I had a shoulder injury 6 months ago. But the next day in practice, I was just riding on the track and suddenly my shoulder popped out, it hurts soo bad, so that was the end for me. My sister road for Formula this weekend and she did really well. she managed to get 5th both days.
Second Week
After my shoulder popped out the weekend, we had to check out what was going on. On Tuesday we went to the hospital for X-Ray pictures but they couldn’t find anything on it. After that they send us to the MRI, cause me and the doctor didn’t really trust it. I was really nervous cause I hoped nothing was bad on it again. If I need surgery again, the recovery will take around 6 months, and our trip to the USA would be less attractive then I thought it would be. On Thursday I had my MRI. Everything went good, got the pictures and the CD with me. So I will send them to my doctor in The Netherlands. Next Tuesday I will get the results. Thnx to my TAXI drivers, Brian Mayo, Denise and Bruce Mayer, because of them I can get to every hospital appointment.
My sister is still training around here (I will rest my shoulder till the results). It’s pretty hard for her cause she was out for 2 years with a knee injury. But I’m pleased to see her training like this. She is doing really good. So I really want to see her back on the track in the Euro Races.
